Snow cuts off many parts of rural Scotland and northern England for several days. A spokesperson for the affected regions said that it while was wonderful feeling further from London, the lack of electricity had caused some problems.

 

February… The US President George Bush launches military operations in Iraq and Somalia. He states; “The fact that we have not yet caught Osama bin Laden means that he is still on the loose,” adding “we can’t search all the countries in the world at once.”…. The FBI refuse to comment on reported sightings of Vice President Dick Cheney…. Manchester United confound their critics by going 9 points clear at the top of the Premiership….

 

March… The first signs of trouble with the Euro appear, as several Italian pen-making firms going bust. One issues as statement saying that the loss of so many zeros from prices has sounded the death-knell for the industry… Tony Blair arrives in Israel to negotiate between Ariel Sharon and Yasser Arafat over Palestine… Colin Powell calls a personal press conference to apologise to the American people admitting; “I’ve been wrong all this time. I am really am called Colin. Calling myself Co-lynne wasn’t big and it wasn’t clever”… In Britain, Gordon Bown announces that the 5 economic tests have been met…

 

April… The campaign to persuade the British people to join the Euro begins in earnest. Asylum seekers across the country are found to be trying to register to vote in the referendum, believing that the common currency will make their lives much easier, as they won’t need to keep visiting bureau de changes…. Robbie Williams releases a cover of the Genesis tune ‘Dreaming while you sleep’, consisting solely of the sound of his snoring.
